Industry: Consumer Products
Project:
PhiferReader PhiferReader
Assignment: PhiferWire Products, Inc., the world’s largest producer of fiberglass and aluminum insect screening products, was interested in expanding its product line into a new category with the PhiferReader, the Ultimate Reading Companion - portable plastic book stand. Not having much experience with plastic parts, PhiferWire turned to Quickparts to assist with their product development process.
Process: Design engineers at Quickparts worked hands-on with PhiferWire from the initial CAD design phase to ensure the PhiferReader could be prototyped and the QuickTurn Injection Mold Tooling and Parts process would be as smooth and cost efficient as possible.
"What really struck us about Quickparts was that we could upload our CAD data to their website and generate a price right there on-the-fly," says Scott Clark, manufacturing support manager at Phifer. "So literally, in less than a minute, you’ve got a price back on how much it will cost whether you make one or 10,000." (Desktop Eng. April 2004)
Accomplishment: Using Quickparts as their single source for Rapid Prototyping to QuickTurn Plastic Injection Molding, PhiferWire was able to achieve tremendous cost and time savings working with their dedicated Quickparts Project Management Team.
With a new QVC marketing agreement in place, it’s only a matter of time before you can have your very own reading companion.

AccuAir Control Systems, LLC
Industry: Auto
Project:
Precision Ride Height Control Systems
Overview: AccuAir Control Systems, LLC was founded in 2001 by Reno and Dustin Heon. They set out to develop and manufacture the first Computerized Air Suspension Control System designed specifically for aftermarket vehicles. With 6 years of success under their belt, AccuAir has now set their sites on becoming a leader in the worldwide aftermarket suspension industry, along with increasing its diversity to supply their technology to Original Equipment Manufacturers.
Challenge:

The original AccuAir Precision Ride Height Control System had done the job for over 5 years. The main ECU Enclosure was aesthetically pleasing, yet very expensive to manufacture and offered no resistance to harsh weather environments. In order to reduce production cost and create a more robust and environmentally sealed Enclosure, the engineers at AccuAir set their sights on Injection Molding.

AccuAir needed the help of a company that would provide the direction to take them from a concept to production, while reducing lead time and cost. After offering a number of companies a chance to quote the project, Quickparts was the first to respond (within twenty-four hours) and presented competitive pricing.

“We made the right choice quoting with Quickparts,” said Reno. “I was impressed with the rapid response and how quick and easy the whole process was.”

Solution:

Utilizing Quickparts as the single source solution, AccuAir received not only rapid prototypes on a time crunch but also CNC parts with a production material and production tolerances. Within one weekend, AccuAir quoted, bought and had parts in hand.

After testing and making design modifications, working closely with an experienced Quickparts engineer, AccuAir needed the same part in production material with the same tolerances of an Injection Mold Tool to verify mating fits. The solution was CNC Machining, and within a week AccuAir received the part allowing ample time for fitment confirmation and testing before an IM Tool was cut.

In less than eight weeks the entire process went from Rapid Prototyping, to redesign, to preproduction, through a final redesign, and finally to IM tooling. Quickparts virtually cut cost and lead-time in half!

Benefits: Quickparts helped AccuAir achieve a cosmetically appealing, weather resistant, high quality production part. They accomplished this by helping improve the look, functionality and lead time of the parts all while keeping the bottom line as low as possible.
“We appreciate the kind of service Quickparts provided us with,” said Reno. “Not only was the process short and sweet, but we got a good value for our money! We made the right choice with Quickparts.”

Goldblatt Tool Company LLC
Industry: Trowel Trade
Project:
Bushing Part for the Automatic Taping Tool
Overview:

The Goldblatt tradition of customer satisfaction dates back to 1885 when Henry Goldblatt opened the doors of “H. Goldblatt Tool Company” in Kansas City, Missouri.  In those early days, Goldblatt purchased then resold tools to cement finishers, bricklayers, plasterers, lathers, and tile setters.  When these tradesmen traveled to different parts of the country, they purchased tools from Goldblatt through the mail.  Shortly thereafter, Goldblatt published catalogs and became a nationwide distributor.

In the late 1920s, Goldblatt ventured into manufacturing, designing and fabricating plaster and cement trowels.  The company discontinued selling directly to journeymen in the 1940s and began distributing its products through dealers.  Over the years, the Goldblatt catalog became known as the product encyclopedia for the trowel trade industry.  The company, in 1965, constructed a new, ultra-modern manufacturing facility on a nine acre site in Kansas City, Kansas.  By 1985, the plant spanned more than 200,000 square feet.

In March, 2006, FinishPro Tools of Lenexa, Kansas purchased the Goldblatt® and PaceSetter™ brands from Stanley Works.  FinishPro had been manufacturing trowel trade tools for more than 20 years, including many Goldblatt products for Stanley.  Goldblatt Tool Company LLC became its own business in 2006 and returned to Kansas City where it had begun.  In the upcoming months and years, the Company will add hundreds of products to its line, continuing to bring innovation and the highest quality and performance tools to concrete, drywall, and masonry tradesmen throughout the world.  As it was in 1885, so it is today. Goldblatt’s guarantee of satisfaction remains its promise to you!

Challenge:

Goldblatt Tool Company had a prototyping need for a newly designed part for the FinishPro Automatic Taper tool.

The bushing part for the FinishPro Automatic Taper was a critical component to the tool. Not only did it have to withstand a long life paired with gritty dry wall mud, but it also had to act as a bearing and a seal for the tool. The bushing piece had to be tiny and tight.

“I had a small bearing part where size and tolerances were critical,” said Dave Jalbert. “I needed to ensure the part would have a long life in an abrasive environment.”

After receiving numerous ‘no-quotes’ from other Injection Molding companies due to a low volume of parts, Goldblatt turned to Quickparts for help.

Solution:

Quoting with Quickparts was fast and easy with their instant online QuickQuote® technology; surpassing other companies with a price competitive quote and a short lead time.

“By utilizing the online quoting not only did I receive an instant quote, but a sales manager called right away to discuss my project,” said Jalbert. “It was no longer a website interaction it became a personal interaction.”

Working together with one of Quickparts’ expert engineers, Goldblatt was able to revise the bushing component to ensure optimum manufacturing and performance.

Benefits: By working with Quickparts, Goldblatt Tools was able to ensure their part was going to build the right way the first time.
“Quickparts is always willing to help with rapid and personal response,” said Jalbert. “And I am always confident in their customer service. By providing me with ‘over communication,’ Quickparts saved me from receiving wrong parts. We will continue to use Quickparts as a partner in our product development process.”
